Rosie Harford is having an odd day. Or one hell of a hangover.
Having had a blazing row with boyfriend Will the previous evening, she reluctantly sets off her for latest journalistic assignment - an interview with one of the residents of The Meadows, a grotty local council estate which is about to become the set for a major reality TV show, The 1950s House.
While at first she imagines herself to be on an elaborate reality TV programme, she soon realises that this is not make-believe.
Rosie returns to her newspaper office but finds it full of men and cigarette smoke with the very few female reporters consigned to recipes and Kiddies' Korner. What's worse is that Will is there too. But in the 1950s he has been married since he was 16 to Rose's best friend, Caz, and they have three children.
Rose is desperate for Billy to love her in the 1950s the way that Will does in 2007. Ironically now that she really knows Will and is sure he's the one for her, she can no longer have him.
Unless she can get back to 2008
